Description

Hop rhizomes are root cuttings from mature female hop plants. In the springtime special climbing vines called bines begin to grow.  The bines grow vertically, winding around their support system (hemp twine or other string) in a clockwise direction. While capable of growing up to twelve inches a day, most grow approximately two feet per week. In June, as the plant reaches its maximum height, which could be anywhere from 15-25 feet, the upper portion will begin to grow sidearms. The sidearms will then bear the hop cones. This is known as flowering. Flowering requires about 120 days without frost, ample moisture, and plenty of long periods of sunlight.
