FINGER LAKES WINE 2019

We are now taking pre-orders for Finger Lakes Wine Juice.

Orders must be received by October 8th.

We will visit the Finger Lakes on October 10th this year.

Please indicate a second choice in case Fulkerson is out of the juice you want.
The further back the juice was originally available the less likely it will be available when we go out. We’ll monitor what’s available and contact you if they have run out of your choice.

Niagara        White          $70.00

Niagara grapes are a variety of Vitis labrusca, used as both table and wine grapes. Niagara is the widest grown “green” grape in the United States. It was developed   in Niagara County in 1868.   Niagara wines are “Foxy” and fruity but usually lacks the acid needed for good balance. Blending with a high-acid grape such as Catawba can improve character.


Diamond          White          $80.00

As a dry table wine Diamond is a distinctive and desirable American type wine developed in the 1880’s. Makes a great Champagne style. It makes a consistently well balanced, clean and fruity wine.


Leon Millot Foster         Red          $85.00

A red hybrid grape created in 1911.  Léon Millot   makes a good Burgundy style wine and is full bodied.


Delaware          White          $75.00

Delaware grape was discovered sometime in the 1850’s. Delaware makes a very pleasing wine of good balance and varietal character. Not much “Foxy” character to this variety, which makes it good for spicy champagne styles, as well as sweet and dry still wines. Depending on the growing season, juice can be white to pink in color.


Lakemont Seedless          White          $85.00

From Geneva, New York, this white seedless grape is a high yield variety with large, compact clusters. Makes a good sweet wine and can be quite delicate. Very similar to the Himrod grape and can be quite nice as a blend.


Seyval Blanc          White          $85.00

Popular “European” type variety, easy to make fine wines.  Seyval Blanc is characterized with citrus elements in aroma and taste, with a minerality that may be compared to white Burgundy. It often can benefit from light oak and secondary fermentation, and is very easy for the beginner wine maker.


Marechal Foch          Red          $85.00

With small berries, this grape makes a variety of wines, ranging from a light red wine similar to Beaujolais, to more full wines with intense dark color and unique character. Great in a blend or Port style wines. Maréchal Foch tends to have strong acidity, aromas of black fruits. Well-balanced, high in sugar, it makes nice wines that can be consumed young.


Rosette          Red          $75.00

A French-American Hybrid, Rosette a light red (even on the skins) wine, and can be used as a varietal rose. It has a pleasant flavors and a light body. A red grape that should be treated as a white and can be bottled early.


Rougeon          Red          $80.00

A dark-skinned hybrid Rougeon produces fruit with a brilliant red hue, making it an ideal blending ingredient, often used for Port blends. Varietal Rougeon wines are usually dry, with excellent color and medium body, but some sweet wines can be very nice.


Concord        Red          $70.00

The Concord grape was developed in 1849 in Concord, Massachusetts. It is labrusca-like in its characteristics. Concord grape juice is used for making grape jelly for PB&J’s.   Wine from these grapes is usually fruity and robust with foxy and jammy character. Typically it is used in a sweet “Lambrusco” style.

In the United States, more than 336,000 tons are produced yearly, primarily in the northern regions and Pacific Northwest. The top producing state is Washington, followed by New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Missouri. This is about 8% of the total U.S. grape harvest.


Vignoles (Ravat 51)         White          $105.00

Ravat 51, or “Vignoles” is a white hybrid cross made in 1930.  Vignoles is very suitable for dessert and late harvest style wines and can be harvested late, however for table wines is usually harvested the last week in September. It can produce adequate sugar while retaining high acidity making a “crisp” wine with a nose resembling tropical fruit.  Wines produced from Ravat 51 (Vignoles) resemble Riesling in character with exceptional quality, and also can produce award winning dessert style wines with high acid and good balance. Crisp flavors with a tropical fruit nose.’


Cayuga White          White          $85.00

Cayuga wine has been highly rated, with medium body, and good balance. Very versatile, it lends itself to making semi-sweet wines emphasizing fruity aromas, and can also be made as a dry, less fruity wine with oak aging. When harvested early, it can produce a very attractive sparkling wine with good acidity, good structure, and pleasant aromas. When over-ripe, however, it can develop strong hybrid aromas with slight foxy overtones. Wines made from Cayuga are fruity with aromas resembling apples, citrus and tropical fruit, with excellent character and a rich mouth-feel. It ages well and is easy to work with.


Gewürztraminer          White          $160.00

“The Spicy Grape”, Gewürztraminer is a very delicate variety the spicy character of this variety results in hints of lychee fruit with a slightly musky flavor. One of the most individual tasting wines of the world, Gewürztraminer can sometimes top 23Brix. Pairs very well with curry dishes, spiced meat and strong cheeses. Gewürztraminer is a variety for a more accomplished winemaker.


Gruner Veltliner        White          $160.00

Typically dry and full bodied with a peppery nose, Grüner Veltliner can have a peachy and fruit dominated aroma/flavor.


Valvin Muscat          White          $115.00

Valvin Muscat has distinct pronounced sweet floral characteristics. It consistently produces wines of high quality with spicy and floral aromas. Highly aromatic, this variety can have orange spice characters.


DeChaunac          Red          $75.00

With a very vigorous growth and good resistance to powdery and downy mildew, this is a great variety to grow at home. DeChaunac produces an excellent full-bodied Bordeaux style wine and ages well. Good character, very popular and is the best value for a full bodied red variety.


Chardonnay        White          $170.00

The most prestigious French white cultivar. Exceptional if made into a sparkling wine (Blanc des Blancs). An appealing fruity fragrance resembling pear, fig, apple, or melon. One of the best varieties to produce fine table wines, can become quite complex when aged on oak. Classic “buttery” notes can be produced with the use of a secondary malo-lactic fermentation.


Chancellor     Red          $85.00

Chancellor typically has a full-bodied European character with notes of plum and apple and is one of the best French-American hybrids on the market. Used to blend with other hybrids or used as a varietal.


Corot Noir     Red          $80.00

Wines are suitable for blending or as a varietal. Deep red color, attractive cherry and berry fruit with good tannin structure.


Noiret    Red          $75.00

This distinctive red wine is richly colored and has notes of green and black pepper along with raspberry, blackberry, and some mint aromas. A major distinguishing characteristic of this selection is the fine tannin structure that is complete from the front of the mouth to the back. The tannin structure and the absence of any hybrid aromas strongly distinguish this selection from other red hybrid grapes. We sometimes blend it with other reds such as Foch or Cabernet Franc.
