Hop Rhizomes are now in stock and ready to plant!

Hop Rhizomes are perennial, ornamental, have a great aroma and you can use your homegrown hops to brew beer with. They’re very easy to plant and just need a sunny spot with well drained soil and plenty of water to plant them. You can plant them next to a fence, a tree, a trellis, anything that a hop vine (actually called a bine) can climb. Get them now while they’re available, planting time is here!

They are $6 each and buy five get one free. We will provide planting instructions for you if you need them.

Cascade – Cascade bursts with zesty grapefruit flavor and aroma (thanks to high myrcene), rounded out by soft floral and spice. Although it lends balanced bittering, Cascade can also be used in late hop additions to maximize its bright flavor and aroma. The notorious king of pale ale hops. Low to moderate alpha acid level ranging from 4.5% to 9.0%.

New Zealand Rakau aka Alpha Aroma – Rakau offers dual-purpose capabilities, with clean and efficient bittering at 10-11% AA, but is often used in later additions to maximize the dominant fruit aroma. Flavors and aromas of apricot, plum, mango, pear, and other stone fruits. Some lighter notes of lime and pine are also present. An orchard-fresh cornucopia of flavors for a variety of new world beer styles. Great for IPAs.

Triple Pearl – Imparts tropical aromas of melon, orange, citrus, peppery spice. Often used in beer in pale ales and other styles where a high degree of aromas is desired. Replacing Willamette in some beer recipes with outstanding results. Also used in Belgian styles. Dual-purpose hop typically featuring an alpha acid level between 10% and 13.5%.

Columbus – Columbus is a descendant of Nugget. It is a high alpha variety and is primarily used for bittering purposes. Columbus is often referred to as CTZ, a trio of similar hops including Tomahawk and Zeus. Aroma Profile: Citrus, Dank, Earthy, Woody. High-alpha, dual-purpose hops with alpha acid levels typically ranging between 14% and 18%.

Nugget – Though it’s primarily celebrated for its clean bittering (11-16%), Nugget offers some flavorful advantages as a dual-purpose variety with heavy notes of herbal and pine resin, and a kick of grapefruit zest. The reliable secret weapon that gives depth and structure to big beers. Aroma: Heavy spicy-herbal. Fresh-crushed herbs, grapefruit zest, stone fruit, pineapple, resin Typical Usage: Bittering

Hallertau – Aroma/Flavor: Sage, rosemary, lavender, and pine. Alpha Acid: 3% to 5.5%. Typical Usage: Flavoring and Aroma. Beer Styles: German and American Lagers.

Kent Golding – Kent Golding has been a staple in traditional English ales for centuries. Its subtle earthy notes and gentle citrus undertones make it ideal for late kettle additions and dry hopping, imparting a refined character to a variety of beer styles. Flavors: Floral, lavender, honey, thyme, earthy, lemon. Best Beer Styles: English Bitter, Pale Ale, Porter, Stout, Belgian Ale. Low to moderate alpha acid level, generally ranging between 4.0% and 6.5%

Chinook – Chinook has since been celebrated as a well-rounded, dual-purpose hop that’s suited for many different styles, especially adding depth to West Coast IPAs and other modern ale styles. Its predominantly spicy and piney character carries smoothly into both flavor and aroma, while bright grapefruit accentuates its clean bitterness. Aroma: Fruity, Piney, Spicy, and similar to cascade. Alpha Acid 12 to 14%. Typical Usage: Dual purpose.
