EMPORIUM FARM BREWERY OPENS

5

Emporium Farm Brewery (EFB) opened August 18th. The EFB is a spin-off of Homebrew Emporium, the Capital Region’s oldest homebrew supply store. Homebrew Emporium has taught tens of thousands of local brewers to make beer and wine, perhaps even you. EFB is located adjacent to Homebrew Emporium at 472 North Greenbush Road, in Rensselaer, NY.

Taproom hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5 PM to 11PM and Sunday from noon to 5 PM. EFB’s phone number is 518 326-5391. The website is emporiumfarmbrewery.com. Although it has basic information, it is under development. A Facebook page is also available for news too.

The staff at the Homebrew Emporium, Jim, Dom, Russ and Roger, will also be the brewers at EFB. We felt it was a natural progression for us. We’ve been brewing for a long time and we wanted to share our beer with more people. There was space available next to Homebrew Emporium and we believe that is a great place for EFB to be in, creating synergy for both of us. We plan to focus on British style ales. Each of us will focus on a different beer or two. Jim is doing ordinary bitter and extra special bitters, Dom does porters and stouts, Russ IPA’s and Roger will make milds and browns. Each will also do a specialty beer once in a while.
For craft beer drinkers, these traditional beers will be an interesting contrast to IPA’s that are very popular now. We’ll have those too, but a more malty and balanced beer is our goal. Our taps carry our beers, as well as, other farm breweries’ beers, ciders, meads and we are selling farm winery wines.
The taproom was built largely by Roger during the past year. With 12 taps it will carry a nice variety of beverages from us and other farm breweries, cideries and wineries. EFB plans a monthly distiller night too, where area distillers will hold tastings of their products. Harvest Spirits, maker of Core vodka, is the first distillery scheduled in October.
EFB has been brewing and its beers are due to be on tap early September, but there are numerous beers, ciders, meads and wines from other farm entities to choose from currently. We’ve been busy getting the system cleaned and ready for production.
