Road Trip: Finger Lake Juice 2017: 850 miles in 2 ½ days.
3:30 PM October 5th. The view for the next 185 miles, driving to exit 42 on I90. We found ourselves in Penn Yan just at sunset.
Next morning it was too cold and rainy to walk along Keuka Lake for long,
so we got to Hunt Country Vineyard, in Branchport, NY, early. It was pleasantly landscaped and, as the rain had stopped, it turned into a a lovely walk on beautiful day while we waited for them to open at 10AM.
Our server, Laura from PA, is going to Keuka College for a Masters. We tried their cheese and wine pairing. That included a Chevre by Lively Run Goat Dairy with Seyval Blanc, Chaseholm Camembert from the Amazing Real Food Company with barrel fermented Chardonnay, aged Gouda with Cabernet Franc/Merlot, and Redmont Cheddar from 5 Spoke Creamery with Alchemy. We liked the Hunt Country Cabernet Franc/Merlot and their Alchemy red. A great start to the day. https://www.huntwines.com/
Jon at his family tasting room. Five generations have tended the land here at Vineyard View in Keuka Lake, NY. We liked the Cabernet Franc and the Marquette, a hybrid. Anita drinks in the view of Seneca Lake at Vineyard View. https://vineyardviewwinery.com/
They are the only dedicated cask beer brewery in NY. Their casks are kept at 53°F. I had the sampler. Sorry to say they missed the mark a little. All were a little too cloudy for the style according to BJCP style guidelines. While good, they were not as crisp as they should be. We’ve worked at NERAX and Jim from Weymouth at the Great British Beer Festival. Most breweries use bio-fine to clear their beer. http://senecalakebrewing.com/
Michael talks about the Seneca Lakes Brewery beer in Dundee.
Casks in the refrigerator.
Fulkerson Winery, our final wine stop for juice.
The juice room at Fulkersons ,http://www.fulkersonwinery.com/. This was our 20th vusut for juice, although we’ve been here other times too. We’ve delivered over 1,500 gallons. This year we delivered 25 buckets totaling 180 gallons.
. A short stop on the way back for a bite to eat and a beer in Geneva, NY http://www.parkersgrille.com/.
Twenty five buckets were delivered to the Rnesselaer store just at closing Friday. The job wasn’t finished until Saturday when 11 buckets were delivered to the West Boylston, Cambridge and Weymouth Homebrew Emporium. Getting back home finished an 850 mile trip Thrusday to Saturday. The couch and sleep were welcome.
