I had the occasion of bringing some contest entries to the judges of the Hudson Valley Homebrewers contest. Empty beer cartons and boxes greeted me in the hall.
In a spacious dining room eight people toiled away. It was happy work.
It was a screening of the largest number of entries the Hudson Valley Homebrewers has ever received, 367. Until this year they had never broken 300.
The Hudson Valley Homebrewers club is in its 27th year. It was started by the former owners of Party Creations in Red Hook. For information on the club check their website, http://www.hvhomebrewers.com/index.php, where there are dates for meetings and events. They have the annual (March) open homebrew competition (one of the largest in New York), an annual (June) family picnic (guests welcome), pub crawls, Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) classes and brewing sessions and cider pressings.
